What We Really Want The Government To Apologize For

I took this off from one of my friends post in Facebook. I couldn't have put it any better ... Extremely eloquently put.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

My heart goes out to PM when he was apologizing over TV. More than apologies, he mentioned things that are very hard to talk about candidly in politics. My respect for him remains. But about the apologies... well, to be honest it felt like a typical politician's apology. Kinda like we made mistakes but its not our fault thing.

I still remember when Low TK questioned about the MS escape and how he was put down by MM and PM over it. Unfortunately LTK is a strategist and not a debater. He commented that if we are paying ministers like CEOs then they should be held accountable like CEOs. Look at Shell, at the end, who took the fall?

I would love it if he were able to reply PM something along this line...

Whether WKS should resign should be a call by his boss - you as the PM. I think that is your call not mine. But I can certainly see that you seem unwilling to hold him accountable or maybe I am wrong but you tell me. The question here is not so much as to penalize WKS for not grilling up the toilet but rather, metaphorically speaking, what else is there that due to complacency and systemic failure that he has yet "grilled up"? We are not on a witch hunt. Of course we understand that one in a while, a fish will get past the net. But the government then owes it to the citizens to review and reveal the extend of the carelessness and if called for, exercise the necessary options however hard they may be. We can do this now, or we can wait till MS comes back and cause more damages, or worst, lives.

I mean, what apologies do I want as a citizen? For letting MS escape? Well, shit happens and even if we have 30 opposition MPs in parliament I don't think that will make a difference.

The flood? Don't apologize for that... we know we have quite a good drainage system and you are not God.

Housing and transport? Yes that's definitely down your alley but is it true that it's due to unforeseen circumstances? C'mon, an ordinary citizen with primary math background earning 25k a year will be able to tell you that transport and housing will be challenged with a 30% growth in population due to FTs and hot money. Did you really not know that? Did MBT really not know that too? Then why was the term asset enhancement used like it was the strategy of the government to let prices escalate. Your reasons for apology doesn't match up with what you all claimed earlier...

You see, what we wanted you to apologize for were the excuses, the arrogance, the bully tactics, the blatant ignoring and belittling of our feedbacks, the "we are smarter than you so just listen to us" attitude, the putting progress before citizens approach and with all that, the degrading of the soul and sprit of our society alienating our hearts from one another. None of which you apologized for.

I am not dumb either. I know as the PM your apologies can only go that far and you can't risk it all. I too as a person have made such withheld apologies before which only caused more pain than reconciliation to my regrets. But you know what, this apology goes down my books as a wrong one.

I do hope it's not that you do not know what's the right one but rather it's hard and politically suicidal to do it. But my fear is that you don't. So on Saturday morning, you know where my vote is going...

Honesty is a difficult path to journey on without reminders from folks who dare to question without fear of repercussions. We all know that. Especially in politics. But nevertheless we always should try. And for just taking the first steps yesterday, not just apologizing but other things as well, you sir have my respect. And in my books, you are one of the good guys.
